About

Perched atop a 12-acre cinnamon working plantation, Trebartha East: The Round House is an award-winning boutique hotel in Sri Lanka that exemplifies sustainable architecture, local craftsmanship, and a passion for art.

All 4 bedrooms have sweeping views over the rice paddies. The 18 m pool curved pool completing the circular building invites all day lounging or relaxing after a hot morning at the beach. The all-day kitchen serves fresh food and drink, made on site, from produce bought from local suppliers.

Designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Professor Narein Perera, The Round House was constructed using locally sourced timber, highlighting our commitment to sustainability and the use of Sri Lanka’s natural resources.

The design integrates key elements of Sri Lankan architectural vernacular, including traditional metal and stonework, creating a blend of modern sustainability and cultural heritage.

Surrounded by hills covered in tea and rubber plantations, Trebartha East provides an immersive experience in Sri Lanka’s tropical south coast landscape.

The mature trees that complete the buildings’ circle and that are located between the room blocks were grown for us in central Sri Lanka. We have re-cultivated the property with many indigenous species of fruit trees along a beautiful garden path that invites for strolling or even an early morning run.
